The maps on this page can be used to see the location and a subset of the data held for all the trees currently recorded by the survey. Once the map has loaded, the controls allow you to zoom in and out and move the map around. You can vary the type of map by using the Map or Satellite buttons in the top left corner. To show labels in the Satellite view select the Labels check box which appears when you hover over the Satellite button.

The Google map also allows you to access the street view feature. To do this drag the icon of a man from the zoom control onto the map area. All roads where street view photos exist will be highlighted in blue. Drop the little man into one of these places and the map changes to a photo view of that place. Use the small arrow in the box at the top left corner of the photo to return to the map.

The "Get Grid Reference Controls" allow you to manage a blue marker to obtain a grid reference reading from the map. The marker can be dragged around on the Google map to any specific position to get a grid reference which is accurate to about 3m. The blue marker can also be moved into the centre of the current view using "Get The Marker" or the map centre can be moved to the blue marker position using "Go To Marker". The position of the marker is shown in the grey box as a 10 figure reference. The latitude and longitude of the blue marker can also be optionally displayed. If required eight and six figure grid references are also available together with the corresponding grid aligned squares (red and green respectively). A 1km square (blue) can also be optionally displayed.

If the browser location service is enabled the map can also show the current location of the user device marked with a purple circular icon. The user is asked to allow this on first loading of the page. This is of most use on a mobile unit like a tablet or mobile phone. On a fixed computer its best to deny this and tell the browser to remember to keep it off. When location is enabled an additional button appears in the Marker controls which enables the map to be centred on the current location.

The left hand (Google) map is replicated on the right in an Ordnance Survey map. In a narrow device like a phone the OS Map will usually appear below the Google map. The OS map also shows the blue marker and the purple marker in the equivalent positions. The OS map can be independently zoomed and dragged although the blue marker cannot be dragged on the OS map. A button is provided to enable the Google map to be synchronised with the OS map. Normally the OS zoom level follows the Google map zoom level as far as it can. However, there is also a check box to lock OS zoom level if desired. The OS map can also be switched off allowing the Google map to use more space on the screen.

The trees (red markers) are only shown on the Google map. To show all the trees in the database, click the "Show All Trees" button. Depending upon the speed of your computer and the web browser you are using this may take a number of minutes. Loading a specific parish is much faster. If you are using Internet Explorer or another old browser and find it slow or jerky consider using an alternative browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox or Microsoft Edge (available as free downloads).

To show the trees in a specific parish, select the parish from the drop list and click the "Show Parish Trees" button. Depending upon the number of trees registered in that parish this may take anything from a few seconds to about a minute. You can add further parishes by repeating this process.

The search facility now allows you to go to a specific grid reference, an address/postcode or a specific tree. To find a specific tree where you know the database Master Record Number, enter the number in the "Go to..." box, choose the Tree Number option and press "Enter" or click the "Go" button. This will move and zoom the map to show the tree's location.

To remove all trees markers from the map use the "Remove All Trees" button. Reloading the browser window will also cause the page to revert to its initial state although this will be slower and will cause the current map view to be lost.

The current Wokingham and Bracknell civil parish boundaries can be shown on the Google map by clicking the "Show Parish Boundaries" check box. When first switched on they will take a few seconds to appear. Clearing the check box will cause them to be hidden. The Bracknell parishes are shown in blue with the Wokingham parishes in red. The accuracy of the parish boundary lines is at best a few metres and so they should be taken as indicative rather than definitive.

The actual location of each tree corresponds to the point at the bottom of the tree's marker. Hovering the mouse over a marker will display the master record number of the corresponding tree. Clicking on an icon will bring up a brief summary of the data on that tree. If trees are close together it may be necessary to zoom in to separate them. The summary data will have a Full Record link which allows the full database record for that tree to be opened in a separate window. Where photographs are available a Photos link will be shown which can be used to display that tree's photos in a separate window.
